About Kashif

As a software engineer with 20 years of experience, a father of a student in the New Haven Unified School District, and the husband of a teacher in NHUSD, I see our schools through the eyes of both a parent and a partner in education.

I hold a master's in computer science and economics, and I have worked as a lecturer. That mix of technical training, economics, and teaching is how I look at classrooms: what students need to learn, how to teach it, and how to pay for it.

Technology is reshaping how we live and work. Students should do more than watch it. I want workshops where they assemble computer hardware, build robots, and bring dead equipment back to life—because this is the age of ideas, and they should know how to execute one. Teachers need paid training before they are asked to lead that work. My background helps me tell a useful tool from a purchase that sits on a shelf.

I am an entrepreneur—founder and CEO of two companies, and a board member of a construction company. Building and governing businesses has taught me how to set a plan, manage a budget, and deliver results. Those are the same habits a school board owes students, teachers, and taxpayers.

I am committed to raising enrollment and school ratings across the district. That is long-term work: strong instruction, safe and drug-free campuses, clear accountability, and the public and private funding that pays for teacher training and modern classrooms. Teachers have to have what they need to do their best work.
